The December 2008 Simlympics (Greek: Σιμλυμπιακοί Αγώνες Δεκεμβρίου 2008), also known as Ylmeria 2008 (Greek: Υλμέρια 2008), and officially known as the Games of the VIII Simlympiad (Greek: Αγώνες της Η' Σιμλυμπιάδος), were the first games to be held by a nation of the Confederacy of Free Regions. The actual games lasted from December 16 to December 30th, ending with huge celebrations for the ending of a successful simlympiad as well as the one-year anniversary of the COFR which coincided with the closing ceremony.

The December Games saw one more union enter the Simlympics, the AFDES, and 19 nations were added to the competing nations list, making it an overall 81 nations from 8 Unions.

Organisation[]

Bid[]

Ylmeria was chosen as the host of the December Games by the 8th ISC session, held in Ilian, Paranor Island. Even though the Shalman Commonwealth had participated in only one Simlympiad prior to bidding, the Shalman Simlympic Committee presented plans that completely renewed the downtown areas of Ylmeria, thus receiving the December 2008 Simlympic Games, the first to be organized by a member of the COFR.

Ylmeria competed against 7 other cities, making it a total of 8 bids for the December Games.

Torch Relay[]

Following the example set by the Penthesili Games, Ylmeria also hosted a torch relay. Starting from Penthesili on November 16th 2008, the relay lasted for a month and ended in the Shalman Commonwealth on December 16th 2008. The flame passed through members of various Unions and traveled 60,000 light years to reach Ylmeria for the lighting of the Simlympic Cauldron during the Opening Ceremony
